Annie Brubaker Writing Consulting

About Me
I’m a writing specialist who helps writers find clarity, confidence, and momentum in their work. Before launching my consultancy, I spent 20 years teaching writing in higher ed (at Wellesley College and UIUC), working alongside students, peer tutors, and emerging professionals at every stage of the writing process. I see writing not as a solitary act, but as a process that benefits from conversation, feedback, and thoughtful guidance.

I hold a PhD in English, with academic roots in modern American fiction and science and technology studies. My scholarly work examines how numbers, data, and technologies gain meaning through narrative, and how those meanings shape power, visibility, and public discourse. I've also authored public-facing writing, including opinion essays such as a recent piece on slang published by Business Insider.

In addition to academic and professional writing, I have experience in grant and fellowship writing. I have taught and supported grant-writing through courses and collaborative projects, helping writers clarify their goals, align with funder priorities, and revise proposals with both rigor and confidence.
I’m based in Natick, Massachusetts, where I live with my family and our dog, Copper. When I’m not working with clients, you’ll usually find me reading, running, cooking, or absorbed in a good TV series.
